DISTANCE EDUCATION COURSES |
Why study with EORC?
Rhiannon and Bob Harris have been involved in aromatherapy education for the past
14 years and have an in-depth knowledge of clinical aromatherapy. They have studied
French medical aromatherapy whilst living in France for the past eight years,
their unique research-based course material combining both the French and UK styles
of practice. As consultants, they have already engaged the work of other experts
in the field of essential oils to assist in the preparation of educational material,
thus expanding the theoretical and practical knowledge on which the Program is
based.
Bob has studied for two years with the European Association of Distance Learning and is qualified to write, edit and administer distance learning courses. Participants can thus be assured that course material will be of the highest calibre, both in content and educational effectiveness.
EORC is recognised in France as a professional vocational training establishment (Formateur No: 93830325783). Our courses fall into the category of activities concerning the acquisition, maintenance and refinement of knowledge under Article L900-2 of the French Code du Travail. As such, EORC and individual students enter into a ‘learning contract’ under French law that ensures the provision, continuity and content of the educational material.

The Advanced Clinical Aromatherapy Program has been developed by Essential Oil Resource Consultants (EORC) over the past eight years by leading aromatherapy educator, Rhiannon Harris supported by Bob Harris, editor of the International Journal of Aromatherapy, scientific advisor to the IFPA and compiler of the Essential Oil Resource, a database of essential oil research.
Until now the Program has only been available by face-to-face tuition held in different countries around the world. It is renowned for providing qualified aromatherapists with the opportunity to extend their knowledge and skills to encompass all methods of administration of essential oils. This clinical approach is fully supported by evidence-based information and safe guidelines for practice along with comprehensive documentation.
Essential Oil Resource Consultants are now pleased to announce that this unique Program of intensive study shall be available by distance learning from mid-2005.
The Advanced Clinical Aromatherapy Program is suitable for:
| Qualified aromatherapists wishing to extend their knowledge and skills in clinical applications. | |
| Qualified herbalists wishing to develop improved formulation strategies using essential oils and related products. | |
| Health care professionals working within a clinical environment that require a research-based approach to using essential oils and related products. |
The Advanced Clinical Aromatherapy Program aims to:
| Deepen existing foundation knowledge and skills required for the practice of clinical aromatherapy. | |
| Provide new information and education in all routes of essential oil administration including respiratory, cutaneous, oral, sublingual/ buccal, rectal and vaginal applications. | |
| Improve formulation skills and therapeutic interventions for a range of clinical conditions. | |
| Demonstrate how information gained from essential oil research can be incorporated into effective practical applications. | |
| Increase awareness of the importance of safe practice. |
With regards to the objectives of the Advanced
Clinical Aromatherapy Program as a whole, the practitioner will be able
to:
-
Successfully combine holistic principles with a clinical aromatherapy approach.
-
Access and use essential oil research to improve clinical practice.
-
Improve selection of essential oils and related products through an increased knowledge of chemistry, research, traditional and clinical applications.
-
Select and administer appropriate treatment interventions. This includes choosing the right galenics and methods of administration.
-
Administer safe and effective treatment interventions based on an awareness of existing pharmacodynamic, pharmacokinetic and toxicological issues that are relevant to practice.
-
Demonstrate an awareness of pharmacy and quality control issues regarding essential oils and related products. This includes sourcing, storage, transportation, preparation, legislation and industry guidelines.
-
Use knowledge of essential oil chemistry and aromatic pharmacology to formulate specifically for a wide range of clinical conditions.
-
The full Advanced Clinical Aromatherapy Program is divided into three Levels, the total of which represents approximately 1000 study hours.
-
Each Level is comprised of modules provided in printed format that can be completed in any order; all must be completed before the next Level is accessed.
-
Each module has detailed assignments and tasks that require completion and submission for assessment. Once all modules have been successfully accomplished on a given Level, an EORC certificate of completion will be provided.
-
Students who plan to attend or have already attended face-to-face Advanced Clinical Aromatherapy studies with EORC may be partially or fully exempt from certain modules on different Levels.
-
Face-to-face classes continue to run regularly in different countries. Participants can thus select to combine distance learning with direct tuition if they so choose.
-
Students may study at their own pace and are encouraged to communicate with other course participants via the EORC internet message board (access via this website).
-
Communication with the principal tutors for each module can be made by phone, fax or email.
