Essential Oils in the Cancer Care Environment

Aromatherapy is one of the most commonly used complementary therapy interventions in the oncology and palliative care environment. Currently the majority of work is focused on whole person care, providing relaxation, improving coping skills and generally improving quality of life. The additional potential of essential oils to assist with specific clinical problems is enormous; their versatility lends them to be used in a variety of ways in this specialised environment.
This class is geared for those already working with essential oils and aromatherapy in the cancer care environment. Its purpose is to promote discussion, link essential oil research to sound and effective practice and improve aromatic interventions for persons with cancer. It also encourages the practitioner to explore the possibility of extending their current ways of working with essential oils to make full use of their therapeutic potential.

Date: January 29th - 30th, 2008

This intensive class aims to help practicing aromatherapists increase their knowledge base and refine their skills from a clinical perspective. The class bridges both Holistic aromatherapy and French medical styles by examining closely all possible routes of essential oil administration.
Taking a research-based approach we shall examine related anatomy and physiology as well as pharmacokinetics, indications, rationale, advantages, disadvantages, safety issues and therapeutic guidelines for each interface discussed. This information will serve to increase practitioner confidence and encourage a critical evaluation of the best routes of essential oil administration for individual clients.

Advanced Clinical Aromatherapy Residential

This residential program combines intensive study with field visits in an incredibly beautiful part of Provence. Entry onto this course requires a prior aromatherapy qualification.
This program of advanced study has been designed for Aromatherapists who wish to expand and deepen their experience of using essential oils as powerful but safe therapeutic tools. Building on the existing knowledge and skills of each participant, the course leads the already well-qualified Aromatherapist into a new dimension of essential oil therapeutics. It achieves this not only through the high standard of theoretical expertise it imparts, but through special emphasis of the experiential involvement of the course participants themselves. The course thus provides Aromatherapists with a unique opportunity to explore the various methods of application in a safe and supportive setting. Crucial issues of essential oil safety and research information are also carefully addressed.
The key facilitator for the course is Rhiannon. During the course she will share her considerable experience of using essential oils in clinical contexts, and introduce to therapists key concepts of French medical Aromatherapy. Bob a medical microbiologist and author of the Essential Oil Research Database, will help to facilitate the course by providing access to the latest relevant essential oil research.
